Learning to Save for God's glory

ree

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children:

and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just (Proverbs 13:22)

A wise person always thinks ahead. Be it money or other materials, it’s wise to save it for future. Saving includes reducing expenses and setting aside money or other materials for future expenses. Saving is an essential tool for managing our financial resources.

There’s a moral example on the importance of savings witnessed in the Bible (Genesis 41: 34-39). The Spirit of God was with Joseph which led him to convince the King Pharaoh to gather and store all the foods of the land. The wise decision of Joseph helped the people of Egypt to sustain during the sore famine for seven years.

Our responsibility as stewards of the loving God is to glorify him, we can do this by various means and through giving is one of the various ways by which we can do so. Generously giving to the church, or to the needy people and contributing our savings for the ministries for extension of his kingdom. Be it a student, a job holder or an unemployed individual,  it is our utmost responsibility to give for his kingdom.

The possibility of saving our finances for good and giving generously can happen only when we self-sacrifice our little things (saving expenses on things we want like the unnecessary expenditure on some luxuries we can do without) and save the finance for future use, the amount can be as large as a 1000/- or as little as  a  5 or 10 rupees etc. If we starting savings from now on,  imagine at the end of the year, this will definitely add additional value to the money you’ve collected and saved. As Bible depicts in Luke 14: 28 for which of you desiring to build a tower, doesn’t first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it.

My beloved ones, if we do not start and act from now on then it will never happen in future too. So, lets seek Him  diligently,  for the blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it (Proverbs 10:22).

The three principles that bible teaches about managing our financial aspects are:

  • Give generously (Genesis 14: 19-20; Proverbs 11: 25; 1 John 3: 17; Luke 6: 38; Luke 12: 33; Proverbs 22: 9).

  • Save Wisely (Proverbs 21: 20; 1Timothy 6: 17-19; Matthew 6: 19; Proverbs 21: 5; Proverbs 13: 11; Luke 12: 15)

  • Live appropriately (Deuteronomy 8: 18; Matthew 6:24; Proverbs 3: 9; Matthew 6: 33; Proverbs 3: 9-10)
